College Preparatory for Careers in Medicine
(DOB-CPCIM)
The goals of the Physicians Medical Forum (PMF) Doctors On Board Program-College Preparatory for Careers in Medicine (DOB-CPCIM) are:
- to provide additional support and encouragement to students who are under-represented minorities in medicine (URiM) and
- to assist students preparing their applications for admissions to colleges and universities and want to pursue careers as doctors and other medical and healthcare professionals

Program Benefits
PMF, through grants funded by Kaiser Permanente Northern California and The California Wellness Foundation and others, seek to:
- Increase the interest and number of under-represented minority students to become doctors OR interest in careers in medical professions and healthcare.
- Inspire, encourage and connect students to educational resources that will support their graduation from high school and receiving their diploma or GED
- Connect students to resources and networks that will assist them with their application processes and packages as they apply to colleges and universities
- Provide students with mentoring, coaching, networks and pathways to become doctors and other careers in medical and healthcare professionals
- Provide students with career information related to salaries, compensation, benefits, etc. in becoming doctors and other medical and healthcare professionals
Who Should Apply
Under-represented minorities in medicine (URiM) who are:
- High school students who are African American/Black, Native American/Indigenous or Hispanic/Latino
- Students who want to graduate from high school and receive their diploma or GED and want to attend college or university
- Students who want to become doctors OR pursue other careers in medicine or other healthcare professions
Program Cost
Upon completion of the application and receiving acceptance into DOB-CPCIM, there is no charge to students to participate.
Students must make a commitment to complete the programs tasks and assignments, which will help them in their goals of graduating from high school and going to college to pursue a career to become a doctor or other medical or healthcare professionals
About Physicians Medical Forum
The Physicians Medical Forum (PMF) was established in 2002. Our mission is to encourage and inspire the education, training, and resources for recruitment and retention of African-American/Black and underrepresented minority physicians; and to provide an infrastructure and support for them to succeed.
Our goals are to help to eliminate health disparities and improve the equity, access, quality of life and medical care services for patients and the community they live in. While our focus base is Northern California, Physicians Medical Forum’s network is nationwide and it’s programs and initiatives impact medical education, pipeline programs and healthcare policy, equity and delivery throughout the country.
